Dump Bush —
Anybody But Bush

"This country with its institutions belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government they can exercise their democratic right to alter or amend it or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it."
- Abraham Lincoln in his First Inaugural Address

I admit I'm disappointed that Al Gore won't get the satisfaction of defeating Bush in 2004; I sincerely hope he will run again someday for major political office. Now, Bush's opponents must concentrate on finding the best candidate to run against him in 2004. Someone who will not be afraid to say that Bush has gone too far in changing our country. Someone who can defeat Bush. Who will it be? mjh

"[P]rofessional Democrats now think Bush and the Republicans are screwing up and calculate that there is a real chance that the Lone Star Ranger may end up a one-term president like his father." Richard Reeves, Where Did All These Democrats Come From?, January 8, 2003 http://www.richardreeves.com/

Even Marvin Olasky, the Bush sycophant who wrote the book that inspired compassionate conservatism, said last month that while he awards the president an "A" for "setting the message" he gives him an "F" for his legislative follow-through. But Mr. Olasky may not be the only one who is waking up to the ruse. The drop in Mr. Bush's poll numbers this week reminds us that anesthesia, no matter how well administered, eventually wears off. Affirmative action, judicial nominations, Enron and the rest are passionate issues for some, but war is a wake-up call for all. Resistance Rising!
November 22nd, 2002 5:15 PM

Despite the self-satisfaction of George W. Bush and John Ashcroft, and the somnolence of the press, there is rising resistance around the country to the serial abuses of our liberties.

As then house majority leader Dick Armey—a conservative Republican libertarian—told Georgetown University law professor Jeffrey Rosen in the October 21 New Republic: "The Justice Department . . . seems to be running amok and out of control. . . . This agency right now is the biggest threat to personal liberty in the country." http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0248/hentoff.php

I will highlight folks who strike me as offering something special.

"We did not authorize the Administration to wage war anytime, anywhere, anyhow it pleases. We did not authorize war without end. We did not authorize a permanent war economy. Yet we are upon the threshold of a permanent war economy." -- Dennis Kucinich, Ohio Representative
"Just because you speak the language of regular Americans does not mean your agenda is not the agenda of corporate America. Just because you walk around on a ranch in Texas with a big belt buckle doesn't mean you understand and stand up for rural America." -- John Edwards, North Carolina Senator
"The American public is sick and tired of him trying to use patriotism to push through an ultra-right-wing agenda." Terry McAuliffe, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee
