Solution from PC Magazine: Picture Peril

If you never thought a picture could hurt you, think again. A recent Microsoft security bulletin details a critical Windows vulnerability that enables a malicious JPEG to download and execute a Trojan on a victim's system as soon as the victim views the image. If you run Windows XP Service Pack 2, you're protected. And a firewall that blocks outgoing requests (not the Windows XP firewall) may also block the download of Trojan code. But millions of other users are vulnerable to this new avenue of attack.
