Look at the following site, the home page and the first page after. What do you think?
JUNGBRANNEN ASSOCIATES INC - www.jungbrannen.com
Some of my thoughts:
That first screen is very clean and modern but might be pointless (some call this a "splash screen"). Is it obvious where to click to proceed? Does it make any difference?
The second screen shows the designer had a very specific screen area in mind. Some would center this (I wouldn't). Some would extend the blue to fill the area (I would). What's noteworthy about that blue? It's actually a tiled graphic -- probably unnecessary.
