Windows XP itself allows bulk file renaming. Select the files using any of the myriad methods. Right click over the first file and choose rename. Type the new name (see caveats following). Press enter. All files will be renamed using what you typed and appending a number in parentheses.Caveats. If you name the first file without a number, the second file is "filename (1)" instead of (2), so I suggest you name the first file "whatever (1)". If the files you are renaming show extensions, include the extension in the name (probably doesn't apply to most readers). Undo will only undo the last file rename, though you may be able to repeat undo. mjh
