Microsoft collects personalization settings into themes, including desktop background (formerly, wallpaper), mouse settings, sounds, and screensaver. (I wrote one chapter of Windows 7 for Seniors to cover Personalization.)  Access these settings by clicking the right mouse button over the desktop and choosing Personalize from the pop-up context menu. The Personalization function is nicely refined in Windows 7, which also includes a new option to change desktop background images automatically (like a slideshow on your desktop). Along with this functionality, Win7 comes with beautiful desktop background photos and graphics. The article linked below explains how to access even more themes than are apparent in Personalization, including spectacular photos of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and South Africa. (The How-To Geek publishes very clear step-by-step documentation.)

Access Hidden Regional Themes in Windows 7 :: the How-To Geek

Windows 7 offers you location specific Aero themes based on the language and location you pick during installation.  Here we will take a look at accessing other hidden themes from different countries.

When you first start the Windows 7 installation the first thing you will do is select a language, time and currency format.  This is where Windows determines what themes you’re presented with by default.
